Thanks all for the comments. Maybe not the best piece of poetry in the world but it came from the heart. Yes, my daughter loved it. I am so lucky to have these memories and, to this day, a lovely, loving daughter.

Re: Call of the wild (Tanka)

Thanks folks. I call this a Tanka because it is Tanka in structure but it is not strictly Tanka because this form was traditionally a love poem. with the first three lines setting a scene and the last two switching back to capture a personal moment between the lovers. An explanation of the history a...

You haven't lived until a Kookaburra has swooped down and taken a hot sausage off your barbecue! Makes seagulls look like amateurs. LOL (True story). Back to the poem. Cindy, you express so well every parent's experience when they have that moment where their control/belief in themselves as a parent is gone. It is one of the scariest things in life. Your understanding of that terror, and empathy are beautifully expressed in this poem.

A very human and touching piece.... The beauty of family is that we have the opportunity to interact long term with another human being and, with wisdom, see past their flaws to cherish that intimacy. This is a powerful thing and a great privilege and you have captured that very well in this poem.

Beautifully, structured, crafted and expressed. The idea of matching seasons to phases of life may not be new but this poem does what many have been unable to do; beautifully match the seasons of life with nature and with flawless poetic delivery in every way. An enjoyable and memorable read.
