Dylanesque ~ a Villanelle

Postby Stella » Tue Sep 08, 2015 3:40 pm

Image

I‘ll go when I’m ready and not before
‘tis none but i who will decide my fate,
I am not prepared to go through that door

Still in the moonlight the tide laps my shore,
Grim Reaper and friends will just have to wait,
I’ll go when I’m ready and not before

My soul is ageless, with death I will war
and still I have desires that I must sate,
I am not prepared to go through that door

With my life fulfilled I want even more,
I refuse to pass through heaven’s open gate,
I’ll go when I’m ready and not before

My spirit still rises and wants to soar,
the funeral appointment will be late.
I am not prepared to go through that door

My feet are firmly standing on the floor,
intentions to live much longer are great.
I’ll go when I’m ready and not before,
I am not prepared to go through that door

Thank you David, i wrote this with "Do not go gentle" in mind, that was a villanelle which really impressed me by Dylan Thomas :)

Your determination is admirable, and the rhyme repeats of the Villanelle solidify your lines with great precision Stella. Well done!!!

This is wonderful, beautiful. One day I plan on writing a villanelle...when the inspiration for it hits me.

A villanelle of perfection, Stella. Dylan would be proud. We must start a "poem of the week" on the front page and I declare this the first winner. Absolutely lived it. A well crafted and thought out piece.
