The local minor league team
Just received a high school phenom
Fast of foot and glove and the next big thing
He was lockered next Joe
A wily veteran playing out the string

The mentor and the mentie
Each going different directions

The kid misjudged a drive
Running from almost second base
On a deep center field chase
Before his glove could make the catch
You may be fast son but
Those legs need to last a lot of years
You'll be gone in no time unless
You learn to anticipate the flow
See with your ears and listen with your eyes
Move with the ball and make an easy grab

The kid looked back to that day
Many years later after
Championships and awards
And years of moving with the ball
At the highest level and said "Thanks Joe"

This is a wonderful poem. So many have someone we can look back to in time and thank for the wisdom they handed to us. This is a lovely little story.
