Not Really Alone

Silence rolls and pillows
Beneath the trees
It gathers in the thicket like cotton
Between the calls of an owl
It settles on every branch
Between each chirp of a cricket
It collects like dew on blades of grass
It clusters about random stones like moss
Flowing through leaves in a chorus of whispers
How lonely these hills seem
These woodlands and streams
I came to walk alone
But silence follows my every step
Puddling in my footprints
Filling the empty spaces I leave behind
But there are also eyes
Hidden among the green and growing things
Curious, benevolent stares and glances
Follow my every move
I know I am not alone, really
I walk among creatures of the forest
And their brother, silence.
Beneath the trees
It gathers in the thicket like cotton
Between the calls of an owl
It settles on every branch
Between each chirp of a cricket
It collects like dew on blades of grass
It clusters about random stones like moss
Flowing through leaves in a chorus of whispers
How lonely these hills seem
These woodlands and streams
I came to walk alone
But silence follows my every step
Puddling in my footprints
Filling the empty spaces I leave behind
But there are also eyes
Hidden among the green and growing things
Curious, benevolent stares and glances
Follow my every move
I know I am not alone, really
I walk among creatures of the forest
And their brother, silence.
