Ghost Ship

Postby Cindy » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:25 pm

Waves come to shore from the depths of the ocean
Pounding with tales and stories of old
Reaching toward land, lapping and seeking
Echo of secrets and sorrow untold

Many, the ships that have sunk to the bottom
Many, the members lost to the swell
Out there, they linger...if only in memory
Or even unknown, forgotten, they fell

Out there, they linger. Along shores, they whisper
Sometimes, their voices thunder and cry
Sometimes in silence, their endless petition
Rises like vapor across the great sky

Now and again, eyes have traced the horizon
Discerning and agony felt by the soul
Behold! In the distance, a manifestation
A mystical vessel which sailed long ago

How eerie the vision against a bright sunset
Having risen again like hope from the fray
Set free from the depths to sail the deep ocean
Its burden, now weightless, if just for a day

Eyes watching, soul breathless, for only a moment
Sailing away and dropping from sight
Just like a dream that visits the dreamer
Lingers so briefly, dissolves with the night.

Ghost ships, so haunting and like a moment frozen in time that cannot evaporate and move on, so it lingers inside the cloak of night.

I enjoyed this lovely poem immensely Cindy..
