On Reaching The Top

To reach the summit was his goal
by hook, by crook, he did not care.
It mattered little what the toll
along the way, if he got there.

So, step by step he pushed aside
all others seeking what he sought.
With loss of heart and stubborn pride,
'twas there he lost what can't be bought.

Now, near the top he looked below
and saw one's pushed along the way.
He worshipped life's sucessful glow,
thinking that fortune made his day.

At last, on top he now must face,
his loss of soul, his lack of grace.

True happiness was never found that way, we both know that Joseph; much better to encourage others to help each other along the way .

A pleasure to read your poetry again my friend. :)

Very well written and nicely composed. I liked the tone and the encouragement in your words.
