Only A Tree

Postby Cindy » Thu Mar 03, 2016 4:07 pm

Sometimes, the tree would tap at the window
Like it wished to come in
Most often at night
Penetrating and stirring restless sleep
Sometimes, it scratched
Like a busy mouse

But in the darkness...
Images of talons took hold of simple dreams
Creating vaporous nightmares
Which orbited wakeful minds without a face
Untouchable, untraceable, unknowable

Perhaps from such as this
The fabled monster-under-the-bed is made manifest
The goblin in the closet lurks
A nameless fear given a name at last

And all along, it was only a tree in the wind
Now standing innocently in the sun.

This was inspired by Robert Frost's poem "The Oft-Repeated Dream", and I had started with a different destination in mind, but...well...here it is. :)
Not sure if I'm content with it the way it is, or if I should change it.

I would not change a thing Cindy, trees have souls in my opinion there is something very tactile and spiritual about them ,no wonder they can fire our imaginations.. :)
