The Cherub

The stone bakes under the summer sun
Sizzling, blistering, fevered
It's chiseled face, stoic
It's lichen-freckled feet planted among the flowers

Long after the shadows have blended
The stone casts heat across the petals
Slowly shedding its curse
Seeking relief that never quite comes

It's heart, still warm, under the moonless sky
It gazes, unblinking, into the cool night
Simmering with molten dreams.

wow, the imagery here is wonderful and almost mystical as night falls and the cherub is still warm with life.. :)

A beautiful write. Skillfully crafted free verse which I enjoy. Vivid imagery. Your words took me to this place. Lovely depth of feeling. Powerful. Well penned. Write on.
