How Many Times

How many times must I fall
Lessons learnt if at all
How many tears will I cry
Holding on to the last goodbye
Another silly mistake
Warnings came a little late
Why do I never learn?
Fated love no return
I gather up my teardrops
Place them neatly in a pile
They are best forgotten
At least for a little while
Gold dust settles round my feet
Another winning smile
But I have learnt my lesson
The fool in me has died
My heart once worn upon my sleeve
Now sleeps in silent peace
For I have found contemptment
My soul has set me free
