On strolling late one evening
I stopped and rested awhile
against a handsome tree
its body was surprisingly warm,
tactile and pleasurable
A leaf fell into the palm
of my upturned hand
it was smooth and soft like skin
and as I turned it over I saw
fine veins running through it
just like my own hands
On further admiring its beauty
I saw that where I had fingers
the leaf had webbed like fingers too
I was amazed at the likeness
closing my eyes I drifted into sleep
as the tree hugged me close
in its arms and we swayed in dreams
Together we waltzed the forest floor
arms and legs somehow intertwined
united as one warm embrace
His musk fragranced hair was flowing
with fantastic adornments
he was such a thing of beauty
strong of trunk and lithe of limb
I could easily have fallen in love
but I couldn’t find his heart
and thought perhaps the angels
were keeping it safe for him in heaven
As I awoke I looked up towards his face
but it was gone
lost in a canopy of sparkling stars
the tree bowed down before me
in the night breeze
smiling to myself I walked home
