Just One More

Postby Stella » Fri Oct 21, 2016 9:41 pm

Image

Little lad runs off down the yard
dribbling the ball with his toes,
an old metal bed frame is his goal
as he watches where his shot goes

Football boots have lost their studs
and his tatty strip is all in holes,
but in his mind he wears the best
and can score a hundred goals

Buster the bulldog shadows him
trying hard to get the ball,
but our little tyke jumps high in the air
and gets up when he takes a fall

He imagines he can hear the crowd
roaring him on to play,
the sun goes down on the rubble turf
and some dustbins get in the way

“Bedtime son”, his mum calls out
but he wants to add to his score
“Won’t be long” little lad shouts
“Just let me get one more”

Ah those were the days when kids played having fun no need for all the posh refinery it wasn't important.
I climbed with the lads played cowboys and indians much to my mothers dismay who wanted me to play dolls with the girls = typical tomboy. We were always out playing go8ing in only when we wanted feeding, how times have changed. It brought back memories and made me smile.
