Dickie's Christmas Tree

Dickie got very excited
his friends wondered why that could be
and then they all started chirping
when he wanted a Christmas tree.

“Oh you are silly” said his wife,
“You live in a tree in the wood”
but all his friends liked the idea
so Dickie decided he should.

They flew all around the tree tops
and found a pine that was just right,
“Oh great” said Jim” Let’s all meet up
and see what we can find tonight”

“I would like to be the fairy”
said Dickie’s wife, ”With angel wings”
Magpie said he had some baubles
and lots of shiny twinkling things.

Blackbird found some holly berries
they were lovely and all bright red,
Sadie Crow painted some acorns
she’d been hiding under her bed.

“Now all we need are some presents
to put under our Christmas tree”
said Dickie feeling very proud,
“I hope Ruby’s got one for me”

Well Christmas morning soon arrived
all the friends gathered round with glee,
they found gifts of slugs, worms and such
and Dickie thought “What’s there for me?”

Very soon Ruby came to him
she was twittering sweet and low
“Close your eyes, come with me”
she kissed him ‘neath the mistletoe.

Then Jim saw what was happening
and he kissed Jenny Wren,
“Ooh” said Jenny “That was so nice
Jim, please do that again”

Nobody kissed Mrs Sparrow
they has forgotten she was there
spreading and preening her angel wings
the tree top fairy without a care.
