Guilt

Postby Stella » Sat Jan 07, 2017 9:58 pm

Image

I have forgotten to feed them
and they sit there on cold
naked branches patiently
waiting as the frost stings
spider webs.

I in my soft bed ‘neath warm
cosy coverlets
cannot sleep for my guilt
and they cannot sleep for
their hunger;

So quietly I slip from my bed
out into the freezing night air
to atone
for my thoughtlessness
and hope i will be forgiven
on a higher level,
that sleep will now come
as guilt and hunger
are sated.

Your kindness is admirable and brrrr it must be so cold going out into the freezing night in the UK . A sensitive and thoughtful write indeed Stella!

You can sleep the sleep of the just now Stella. As always, you pen beautifully and evocatively, while employing a simplicity and directness that respects the subject.
