Autumn Perhaps

Autumn Perhaps peers around
the picket fence, as perhaps she is
witnessing the last rose of summer
stepping out of her wilted petticoat
to quiver and cascade summer’s
last musk petals in her basket.

Autumn Perhaps almost reaches
her first autumn leaf hiding beneath
her now potpourri basket, yet blows
herself and petals away spilling
Van Gogh’s colour palette of ochre
yellow, Prussian blue and raw Sienna

bringing to life his distressing
painting ‘Willows At Sunset'.
Thick graphic brush strokes
twist branches to stretch and scream
deep loneliness and lost love
yet ethereal petal’s pastel colors

and heady scent floats, flutters
to mellow, mollify, settle and salve
torturous hell-heat of the painting.
Autumn Perhaps now peers from
the all powerful picket fence
holding the baritone John Denver's

immortal heavenly hand singing his
God-given song ‘Perhaps Love’ for her!
