Masks

There are times as a child
That you think nobody knows
Simply because you never told.
A piece of knowledge you carry carefully
Like a piece of fine China.

How could anyone know
If you had never told a soul?

One day grandma asked me,
"Where's your sister?"
"In there with grandpa,"
I pointed.

At that moment, the mask fell from her face.
I saw her then...
That broken woman who I had thought was grandma.

What I'd carried for years
Silently shattered at my feet.
So now I knew.

I knew she knew,
But I didn't know if she knew
That I knew she knew.

Because we all have masks.
I wear mine well
And as usual, I never said a word.

Secrets, never to be told do sometimes create strange happenings when we wonder if someone else shares the same knowledge and we cannot find out unless we release the secret.
A poem to ponder on Cindy, do we tell or do we say nothing? :?:

Very interesting... we all have secrets that we haven't told anyone. Very relatable
