Dad Says, "No Second Chance."

Postby Noodlehead1997 » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:08 pm

He comes from the slums down town
I live on Wimbledon Hill
Socially were poles apart
I love him still

He's never worked since college
Says I'll never want
He'll keep me in the manner to which I'm accustomed
It all sounds so nonchalant

All of a sudden
He's changing the rules
Wants me to move in
But I'm still at school

Daddy says it's up to me
But I'll be on my own
No bailing out, no second chance
Its college do or don't

His flat is lit by moonlight
Electricity has run out
A cockroach scurries across the floor
Flies are whizzing about

I scan the room, I think ahead
Is there more to this room than just your bed?
I reach in my bag to get my phone,
“Hi Dad, put the kettle on!”

I am smiling away to myself here Sye. The rhythm and rhyme flow so beautifully here and the last line is a stunner...

I think you did the right thing in reaching for your phone ..... but then again maybe not. Nah, go for the cuppa, Dad is right - you are too young. Cute write.
