Poetry don't sell

Ta very much then for your kind words
but publishing books on poetry is for the birds.
They just don't sell like they should
even though they may be good.

However, I have been a'writing poems
about Oops, a little boy who
gets up to mischief
and into a situation or two.

They're short and sweet and to the point
kinda educational in a roundabout way.
I've been doing this for thirty odd years
I'll type two out for you, if I may?

Oops was happy today
'cos Sunbeam came out to play,
they romped and laughed and had fun together
- until there was a change in the weather.

Splash the Water, all bright and clean,
was in the bathtub lying down,
when along came Oops after a hard day's play
and quickly changed Splash to a dirty brown.

Then there's Dash the Rocking Horse
and Read the Book and Bounce the Ball
and Tablecloth who lost a tug of war
and Colour the Crayon - and that's not all.

So dear reader, as you see
there's lots of rhymes penned by me
BUT will they sell? That's the doubt
so in the meantime - they'll just lay about.

Ah - welcome Denys to Poetry For You - -so good to see you posting here on this friendly site - A really amusing piece of wise fantasy with lots of smiles and nods of the head from yours truly -- I do agree that poetry books do not seem to have the following today that they deserve but am sure good verses will come back into fashion when the world takes seriously the poet's ability to turn words into magical pen-painted scenes -- as you did here. A bright and fresh first posting and I look forward to more.

It's good to meet you and enjoyed this wonderful romp down the page meeting some of your quirky characters from nature and real life. Children would love your imaginative style so keep your poems for generations to come as I have heard that writing will not be taught in schools before too long Denys.

Very entertaining and fun to read. I don't think many people are interested in poetry, unless they write it. Then there are the different styles. Some are picky as to which style they want to read. So, I guess it's even a hard sell sometimes within the poetry community. It certainly seems that way at times.
