Honest Lyrebird (Alouette Poem)

Postby Karin Anderson » Thu Dec 11, 2014 7:22 am

Watch him sing and flout,
a kookaburra’s now mocked
as he struts his stuff,
who could love his bluff?
Drunk on love he’s just so cocked!

Poor Lyre lady birds,
he’s in with cheat’s words,
clearing space as he performs,
clones twenty bird calls,
he knows he enthralls
yet, beyond all mundane norms.

Look! he’s wants to dance,
shake his tail and prance,
canopy of silver white,
females fall and drool.
God forgive this fool’s
complex courtship to excite!

Wow! a chain saw sound,
a sure cause now found.
He calls to save Aussie trees,
give me, give me more
now I just adore
honest Lyrebird~~with my whoopees!!

What a joy to see and hear this clever bird, and David Attenborough narrates the video so well.

I really was laughing at the Kookaburra answering back to the call...how sweet!

Thank you so much Karin for posting this wonderful tribute to a cheeky but loveable bird.. :)

Karin, such a gorgeous poem, love the picture too. I love me some David Attenborough every now and then. :)

Gorgeous wee ditty.

Such a close study of your subject Karin. I love to learn of things I know nothing about. Your poem does this for me. He sounds a right little 'show off' ha ha.
