I asked you to go quickly
but you lingered with the sunset,
and then the moon was lost
in another sky.
I was glad you had lingered
in case the sun never rose again
and the stars became too old
to light the way.
Now you in your lingering
are cast into the darkness too
you can no longer keep me in your shadow
and so I let you stay.
