A Cardinal in the Snow

I am surprised to see
A cardinal fly over head then rest on the bare branches,
where in spring the crepe myrtle bloomed.
Everything is covered with snow from the
night before...
The ground, frozen beneath the powered
snow, as the weather man called it.
Stay in they warned on the radio and TV,
Snow, so beautiful yet in places, so unfriendly.
Schools are closed and I can hear the voices
where children build snow people and glide
on sleds, voices ringing. Businesses are closed.
Another pile up the forecaster announces.
He says again, in a positive manner, stay in,
unless you have to go out.
Snow,
has painted everything in white laced ice.
We await the thaw.
Somewhere, people are crying...this snow brought
devastation to many!
We offer prayers and know we are blessed to be
in here warm and well fed.
Peace be with you all!

When we are children we perceive snow to be magical ,
but then in time we see that although it is beautiful covering the landscape it can be treacherous and we must be wary of the ills it can bring.
