(A Villanelle Poem)

Don’t rip down the glory grapevine, it needs more time
As I sing and swing on colours autumn can bring.
It simmers embers of crimson sunsets divine~

Leaves in warm spring burst baby shoots to ever climb
Miracle shade as on slippery poles it will cling.
Don’t rip down the glory grapevine, it needs more time~

Soon winter drops a drab cloak of billowed out rhyme
from tryst sky to smother autumn’s brazen heart fling.
It simmers embers of crimson sunsets divine~

Remember our glory days are soon in their prime.
There’s still leaves that tease, tarry, yet twirl to our zing.
Don’t rip down the glory grapevine, it needs more time~

Recollect our toasting of exquisite mulled wine
As we vine sipped the love only autumn can string.
It simmers embers of crimson sunsets divine~

Recall how our hair streamed pink blossoms of springtime.
Yet in autumn glory you proposed with your ring.
Don’t rip down the glory grapevine, it needs more time.
It simmers embers of crimson sunsets divine~

Karin-As beautiful as the painting, love that title. The repetition you have used only
adds impact and cohesiveness to this splendid write. So, this is what a villanelle looks like?

Karin, i love the Villanelle form and it is such a lovely form to write in.

The grapevine is so beautiful in its colours, and oh no..don't rip it down, it will yield more fruit .. more wine..more memories if you tend to it..

Both the picture and the writing are breathtakingly beautiful, Karin, and I love how the narrator extols and adjures us to not tear down the grapevine...there is much still to be found in its beauty and what it has to offer, indeed. Even our memories would want us to leave well alone, and preserve, that which signifies the bounty of our hearts, Ma’am. I’ve not delved into the Villanelle form before, but your beautiful write tempts me to try my hand at it, for sure. A spectacular and stunning write this is, my friend.

A beautifully penned Villanelle, Karin and the rhyming couplet is just devine.
