Pain Is Always Hungry

Pain is always hungry
It eats a lot of time
It laps the minutes up like milk
- It's drank a lot of mine -
It nibbles at the hours
From one to twenty-four
Then stands there drooling for the next
- Always wanting more -
It takes the worst
It takes the best
And moments in between
It's not a picky eater
It licks the platter clean
Too bad it eats away at time
And never gets its fill
Because I know that time ain't free
- I'm left to pay the bill!

One of my older poems from poetfreak. September 9, 2013.

An excellent read - this has to be one of your best Cindy - totally absorbing from the first line.

One of the best descriptions of chronic pain that i have read Cindy.

It does steal time when it targets your concentration hour after hour and nothing will fill its need.

Many others will easily relate to this well penned poem..

What a brilliantly crafted poem this is, Cindy. A rhyming delight with truth ringing in every line.

Very well written and I agree. A racy wonderful verse about something which is truly painful.

You convey so well the ravenous-seeming nature of pain, Cindy, whether it be due to a physical ailment or a pang of the heart, Ma'am.

Like Stella, I can really relate to this too, and it is so true. Pain can have a powerful affect on us and hungry as a metaphor is a most original way to convey pain Cindy.
