I sat biting my nails in the waiting room.
Despite being terrified, I'd arrived early
at the Denist's for my nightmarish ordeal.
I did know the score for I'd been there before -
Tiresome wisdom teeth that cause acute pain.
Yet I was shaking like an aspen - afraid
to expose the erring tooth to dental pliers.
The Dentist - a no-nonsense kind of fellow-
remained unfazed and politely but firmly
informed me that an extraction was a must.
I shut my eyes as he filled a long syringe,
with a fine needle which would be used to numb
my painful jaw- before I could react,
he had jabbed his weapon into my mouth thrice.
I winced, did not scream incase his hand shook.
Minutes later, when my jaw felt quite heavy,
the dentist went into action - like a gardener.
He seemed to dig around the offending tooth
brusquely telling me it was stubbornly stuck.
After what seemed, like a long loosening session,
his dreadful pliers appeared - I shuddered
He ignored my silent protests, and pulled hard
Out came the tooth- I felt a sense of relief.....
After all, it was not so bad, with the ice packs
And pain-killers, I am creeping back to normal....
