Plagued by Dementia

The beauty of fall
is lost on her.
She tries to recall,
Who she is
and where she lives.
They tell her
they're her family.
But they all look
so unfamiliar.
Can someone help her,
overcome her dark fear?

Sensitive and so real Sandra. A stirring poem, moving and so tough for one and a family to be in.

You describe the plague of this disease so well as she does not even know her own family. Your question at the conclusion really did it for me Sandra, with its vivid words "dark fear"?

So tragic-I have a dear friend with advanced dementia and it takes its toll even on the care giver. Let us hope and pray that more help may be forth coming.
A profoundly moving write

A most dreadfully cruel disease, that slowly steals everything incuding dignity..not enough research is being done in this field and it is good that people like you make an awareness of it Sandra..

It's such a sad place to be. Heart-breaking. This is a very moving poem.

A most saddening thing, Sandra...to be robbed of one's memories and mental faculties, yet to still feel the confusion and fear associated with knowing that something is terribly wrong. How chilling it must be, Ma'am.
