Those Times.

A tongue-in-cheek bit of history
in this re-framed Weekend Tale.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Logs blemished and throttled
the sand.
Saws pin-sharpened, shrieked
as wood sang
Shavings embroidered faces
and coats.
Boards above tide-line clogged
the coast.

Men hammered, nail-forged, tarred
and brushed,
daylight laboured, night lanterned,
they, dust-stuck
and sweat-soaked as press-ganged
young locals slaved
to beat boat from raw trees, create
ocean-worthy, rigged
sailed good and ready a fine vessel
to stow stolen gold
for the quellerous lady, Queen Bess.

Bold, those times
when seas were alive with hoards
of soldiering pirates.

I love the last stanza. Especially your use of the word "hoards". A very exciting use of the word, I think. Wonderful poem.
