Annabel

Postby Sandra Martyres » Mon Feb 02, 2015 11:14 am

Fare you well my beloved Annabel,
May you in peace and happiness dwell
In heaven's gardens, far from earth's hell
Where angels will your pain and fears quell.

I do miss the rising decibel,
Every time you raised your voice to yell
At marauders who did our trees fell,
To earn money from the wood they'd sell.

Our home now feels like an old citadel.
Deafening silence, dank smell -
Make it a place where I cannot dwell,
I truly miss you my Annabel.

As soon as there is a long dry spell,
I will pack my bags and leave this cell.
The loss and pain within me to quell
Fare you well my beloved Annabel.

Wonderful mono-rhyme Sandra, and it all flows so smoothly.

Annabel must have been a very special lady ...

This is such a pleasure to read with the mono rhyme and lilting images that tells the story of Annabel. A unique and captivating poem thank you Sandra.

Hauntingly beautiful. I enjoyed the poem. The use of the name Annabel makes it all that much more musical to the ears. Nice choice.

You capture well the feeling of absence when someone intimate with us passes on, Sandra. I cannot help but think that this is referring to a pet, perhaps? The raising of the voice whenever "marauders" would invade the treeline makes me think of how my own pets raise the alarm at home whenever someone comes onto our property. Perhaps I am wrong in interpreting this as a pet who has passed on....nonetheless, it is beautifully written and obviously comes from the heart, Ma'am.
