Himself

Postby Fay Slimm » Fri Feb 13, 2015 10:57 pm

Image

There he floats on top of flat ocean
wrapped in himself.
The gull, to exclusion of everything else
lives in a world
of liquid refreshment then screeching
his own opinion of
what constitutes singing perfection.

Shouldering forward he wings
away filling the air
with his seabird presence, lands sedately
on clifftop seclusion
to embellish a nest and preen his quills
with skillful confidence
before looking for fresh mischief-ways.

Clever that pristine grey-feathered
thief of all things edible
so I warily cover my cheese and bread.

A seagull once took a sandwich clean out of my hands when i was on a ferry; you describe this cheeky little fellow perfectly Fay..

Such a delightful read...I too have witnessed the greed and boldness of sea-gulls during a trip through the fjords in Norway...

I love the ending of this lovely poem. Gulls can be regular little thieves. Made me smile. :-)

You haven't lived until a Kookaburra has swooped down and taken a hot sausage off your barbecue! Makes seagulls look like amateurs. LOL (True story). Back to the poem. I love the way you have captured the character of the seagull. They seem like cheeky extroverts. I have never met a quiet, polite one! Good work.

You nailed the cheeky nature of nature's cheekiest chappies in this write Fay. I loved the humour throughout and the wry observation yuo made too. I liked this...
anto :)

this guy is the cheekiest of them all though - wee Sammy takes the biscuit - I mean the Doritos
