In the days of yore....

Postby Sandra Martyres » Sun Feb 22, 2015 11:46 am

He dug deeper and deeper,
Into the muddy ground,
To bury his last secret,
Where it wouldn't be found.

As the dark night grew colder,
The digging got tougher.
His tools felt much heavier,
It was risky to stop.

He continued doggedly,
Until just before dawn.
After that it was dangerous,
Neighbours would see him.

He placed the cask in the hole
And covered it with earth.
Whiskey was very precious,
During prohibition!

A wonderfully clever way of portraying humour dear Sandra in this little piece of prohibition-time in the days of yore.

Ha-ha! A secrete supply. Love this nostalgic tipple of a poem, Sandra.

A great surprise ending and like Stella, I thought it was a body. The atmosphere you build to the final stanza made it a compelling read for me Sandra.

Of times gone by, and how the restrictions placed upon a society weighed heavy on more than a few, Sandra.
