Where Have All The Poets Gone?

Postby Joseph Anderson » Mon Mar 02, 2015 3:06 pm

Where are the poets of my youth,
who knew the power of rhyme?
They opened doors of life for me,
enchanted with their imagery
and ennobled man's humanity;
It was a better time.

Now, they choose to write in free verse,
free from substance, style and rhyme
and I get lost along the way,
intent on what they mean to say;
I yearn for yesterday, today
and the harmony of that time.

Please pardon this 90 year old, still lingering
in the long gone years of ageless poetry.

i am with you all the way Joseph, rhyme and rhythm count for so much, and form is an art in itself...

Dear Joseph, fret not any more// some rhyming verse is on its way,// in the form that you adore// and long for every day.///
It's sad indeed that rhymes are rare// and hardly ever found.// But if you seek with patient care// they're bound to come around///
So here's a tip for you to heed// when seeking those elusive rhymes.// Take a thought from your innermost seed// and write it in your own poetic lines///// Which you do with great aplomb already!!!

I enjoy both rhymed verse and free verse, though, as of late, I've found myself delving more and more into the rhythm and rhyme style, sir. A great write, Joseph.

I too enjoy rhymed verse and free verse. Although some school children are not taught poetry and would rather play with technology than craft a poem. I do see your point of view and linger as long as you wish, as this is your prerogative and pleasure and I look forward to more of your great rhyme Joseph.

A superb piece. I similarly linger in the world of rhyme.

I enjoy both kinds of poems and write both. Though I understand you here. :-)
