Mother, Forgive Me-Sonnet

Postby Joseph Anderson » Sat Mar 07, 2015 4:01 pm

When viewed up close most fabled works of art
appear as blurs, just daubs of paint and so;
When someone lives to close their hearts will know
those petty feuds, where brain rules over heart.

Those many family envies and disputes,
those many major ripples in life's sea
turn love and joy to human misery;
What heated pride said then, heart now refutes.

A painting's beauty can be only caught
when viewing from afar, we clearly see
the melding of their colors, so it be
this distance lends enchantment, with that thought--

Now, I see clearly what you mean to me
when we're apart, my thoughts remain on thee.

This poem was written when I was away in the
armed forces, during W.War 2 and mailed home
1945

How beautiful Joseph that you compare your mother's love to that of a wonderful painting; yes we must stand back to view the art in its entirety, for up close we often only see the brushmarks on the surface.
The deeper wonderment lies below the surface and is the core foundation of the piece..

You wrote this in the year i was born.. :)

A wonderful and sensitively written gift to your mother under such sad circumstances and it reminds me of 'absence can make the heart grow fonder'. The metaphor of the painting makes it all the more engaging for me knowing how special mothers are, and you were away an the armed forces Joseph.

A lovely Sonnet, Joseph. I bet she just loved this in those difficult times.
