To my illusive Muse

I sit on the waterfront,
waiting for you to return,
with the wind tossing my hair,
and the birds chirping aloud.

In the distance I spot you,
approaching me very slowly.
I focus on your silhouette,
at first it's clear then hazy.

I pray that the winds will lead you
quickly back beside me again.
You have been gone for far too long,
leaving me pining and restless.

My pen without poetic ink,
my spirits at an all time low,
the very thought of your return,
perks me up and brings a big smile.

But, just as I get ready,
to celebrate your return,
you change course and disappear
I'm back to staring blankly.......

A wonderful description Sandra of a fickle muse who comes to tempt us and then hides away.. i can relate to this and love the metaphor... :)

I can really relate to an illusive Muse too! I love the atmospheric first stanza as a lead into the rest of the poem which is also wonderfully haunting. Never mind she will return when you least expect it my friend.

A wily old visitor is that beguiling Muse dear friend - - this depth of this poem shows though that she came back soon..... a great description of how we all sometimes feel.
