Posthumous

Postby stevenstirk » Sat Mar 14, 2015 8:51 pm

Loved the medal...thanks a lot
It made my day..it hit the spot
I'll keep it safe my whole life long
Please tell my folks I won a gong
As sadly I shall not be there
You'll see and feel me everywhere
You carved my name on granite stone
and rendered me to ash and bone
I fought for freedom and for you
They said it was my duty to
Tell my wife I loved her so
Will I be back?.. The answer's No
And tell my children not to grieve
I won a prize and had to leave
To mother.. Though my life was short
I died behaving as I ought
My country felt my gift was nice
And liked my little sacrifice
Although my life on earth shall cease
My gong stands on the mantelpiece
Inscription 'Brave and vanquished fear
And gave his life FOR YOU LOT HERE!

Rhyme and rhythm impeccable as always Steven, but the truths in this poem that seems light hearted at first are very real and how our young men are brainwashed into giving up their lives is disgraceful.. God bless everyone who came back and those that never did..
