(Please listen to the music after reading the poem)

(Modern Haiku/Senryu)

vegetable soup
somewhere the homeless queue
tasting the steam

stripped corn silk
rat’s rustles are
full off the moon

goggle eyed guest
rhubarb’s lurid legs
dance the can can

beetroot wine
kisses for gardener’s
hot lips

salad dressing
she puts on
her hostess face

lettuce spinner
my daughter gasps
at pink frilled skirts

dinner party chill
a snap pea
cuts the silence

glazed carrots
pet rabbit’s nose
window jumps

heavenly gates
burst open
mother’s pumpkin pie

friend's rose bud lips
spill the beans
her starry ring

cuckoos calling
grandma dances with
a vegetable man

the end
I’m over veggies
so peel me a grape

What a wonderful sequence you provided for us Karin, modern haiku and senryu are so difficult to get right and i admire you for your talent with these.

I love the soft jazz of Diana Krall and "Peel me a Grape" just happens to be my favourite track of hers.. :)

I love the jazzy seductiveness of the accompanying song (and Diana Krall is quite a stunning beauty, I must say). The unexpected pairings you produce in imagery and word throughout this write is astonishing and enlivening, Karin. The write is alive with an innocent and frolicking gaiety that comes across so smoothly, Ma'am, incorporating the soul of jazz within each stanza.

I'm sorry I missed this piece first time around Karin. It
is beautifully written . We just need a big plate of
chips and a pint of Guinness to wash it all down..now
