Just For Fun :)

I have a little metal tin and I keep it in a draw
it´s filled with memories from the past,
and d´ya know what, to the top it´s nearly full;

I´ve got the ticket from the cinema
where we sat cuddling at the back,
was it really fifty years ago, hard to believe is that;

A receipt from Jones the jewellers for the ring with
mounted stone, the wrist band from the hospital,
God I hate this being alone;

There´s a pebble from a Cornish beach, we picked
it up in sixty seven, a sprig of heather tied with string
from the moors somewhere in Devon;

I´ve still got the card you sent to me when I reached
twenty one, it´s signed with lots of xxx kisses
and you added a smiley face : ) for fun;

My tin it once held biscuits, now only life’s lost
crumbs, that´s all that I have left now and
sifting through its contents only leaves me numb;

These mementos always bring a tear but mostly
bring a smile, as I relive the time we spent
mile after loving mile...

This piece is wonderful Tom. A journey through the past with all
of its memories and mixed emotions. Such memories demand
prose, as rhyme couldn't do them justice. Thanks for sharing
your journey.
