Dickie Sparrow’s Easter Egg

Postby Stella » Fri Apr 03, 2015 1:33 pm

Image

Dickie wanted an Easter egg
but Mrs Sparrow said “No”
“Please indulge me” said Dickie
“It won’t take long you know”

Ruby Robin and Jenny Wren
both overheard his plea,
“We’ll help you make some lovely eggs
let’s do it now up in our tree!”

Then Jim Cuckoo wanted one
Magpie said it was a must,
the girls got all excited
Dickies wife squawked her disgust.

Ruby found some mealworm milk
and Jenny some chestnut shell,
Owl came to stir the mixture
and soon all was going well.

Magpie brought shiny ribbons
and chick feathers hooked on his legs
such beautiful adornments
to decorate all the eggs.

Then at last they feasted
and all had egg on their beaks,
poor Dickie’s wife head under wing
hid herself away for weeks.

I just love these lighthearted Dickie Sparrow poem-stories of yours, Stella. Joyful, simple, entertaining fun. How many have you written now? Time to publish perhaps? - no, not perhaps - definitely! Happy Easter.
