Life's Weary Road-Sonnet

Postby Joseph Anderson » Wed Apr 08, 2015 3:08 pm

Life's weary road I've wandered ever long,
through victories, triumphs and much defeat.
The friends who traveled with me now are gone,
another time with them would be a treat.

The best of life seemed always up ahead,
as I pressed onward in my hurried haste;
With things or words I should have done or said.
reckless was I, with never time to waste.

Who now will grasp my withered, shaking hand,
who now will hear regrets and battles won
and show their love, show that they understand
the fate of one, whose race is nearly run.

I oft was not the captain of my fate-
Life's final bow now beckons, as I wait.

Our mortality is ever present, as we age.

Joseph, a lovely sonnet as always , i think we all try to run and not walk until as we grow older we find that in running to the tomorrows we are missing the beautiful todays....

The love we leave behind is the testimony to how we have lived..

A good solid Sonnet on mortality with impeccable rhythm and rhyme. I can certainly emphasize as losing our friends is sad indeed, yet we have our poetry friends to share our ups and downs and we appreciate beauty more than ever before. Thank you for always sharing your poetry with me Joseph.

A wonderful sonnet to that weary road of life, Joseph.

A delightful poem. You have to have lived a full life to get to the
stage you write of. It's true indeed that when one gets to a certain
age the tendency to reminiscence becomes very strong. I am with
you whole heartedly on the sentiment expressed within this
delightful piece. The young have it all ahead of them, yet one
day they shall do exactly the same.
