Swedish Birthday Party In Australia

Butter creaming almond orange
musicians tap a fun folk pace
crescent moon cookie smiles
bursting with sugar and spice.

Dancers bounce floorboards
like rubber kaleidoscope balls
rioting rhythm to violin’s
haunting harmonic thrust.

A dimpled woman child
blond, breathlessly beautiful
pulls me on the dancing floor
to choreograph and colour

Rolls of red cloved cabbages
churns of blue vein cheese
slivers of silver herrings
twists of green spruce trees

As spumes of yellow blue tide
swirl skirts and nostalgia
tripping the light fantastic
to a plaintive cuckoo call.

We leave night full mooning
on birch tree’s memory’s swing
her white limbs outstretched
to a Northern Light sky

As we home call our children
their blond hair bobbing with sleep
car purring Swedish ancestry
to our Australian dream time.

Karin-This is somewhat remindful of our Scotch Irish type hoe downs during my early years in the Appalacion foothills of America..So beautifully
descriptive.A very endearing and memorably rendered poem.It does take me back home to precious memories

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the music, Karin, and the verse lends itself so well to the festive feel of the tune, Ma'am. Music, dancing, and food, along with wonderful company...what more could a person ask for? Most excellent!
