How are you feeling, has the pain now gone?

“It´s not too bad now
I just hope to see again
when these are removed”

And are you still having bad dreams at night?

“Yes, I hear the screams
and I can still smell the gas
and the burning flesh”

It will take time, can I get you something?

“Not at the moment,
but can you tell me matron
of the day outside”

The sun shines brightly; can you feel its warmth?

“I can feel it, yes
I can also hear the birds,
sweeter than the guns”

The first war was a sin against humanity. The young men used as 'cannon fodder',
hence the phrase, and the appalling loss of life, and needless maiming of our
young men. Such bravery was unrewarded other than the issue of the odd medal.
Their medals are regularly sold on Ebay for a few quid. They were the bravest of
the brave. Many would spin in their graves if they could see what we've done to
their country. We now house a right shower, who would simply use their right
to emigrate rather than fight. A great poem Tom, and a reminder of our
heroes. ...........Rant Over.

Done admirably in pentaiku form Tom, and this form lends itself to the telling of events such as this.

The images you paint are so vivid and heartwrenching... a jewel of a poem, i wish i could award it 5 stars.

The cost, paid in the currency of our young men (and women, now), was and is such a high price to pay, Tom. The horrors of war come alive through your verse, sir.

This pentaiku has such a huge impact on me with the vivid replies to the questions. History keeps repeating itself over and over and kudos for such brilliant penning Tom.

A heart-wrencher Tom - - this subject still cries out to be exposed for what it was - - a travesty and tragedy. A haunt of a read and the chosen style suits it well.
