Tell Us.

We the widows who clip our dreams
as we do fingernails,
cover our nakedness, tie needs
to war-riddled bed-rails
and wait for what cannot appear
are stating our own case
as women forgotten in war-greed.

Pleadings of passion soak our skin,
fire attacks crying bones,
desire writhes too much to admit
heat leaves us so cold
searing emptiness, not fitting
for bravery's widows
claims our grief, battles resistance.

We, wistful women, lost the Him
who mattered so wholly,
now as death laughs at our shivers
young flesh withers alone.
Why, tell us, does war not deliver
peace that keeps men at home
where love reproves without killing.

We often wrongly forget about the war widows as the horrors of the actual battlefields take over, but these brave women do deserve recognition for their grief and braveness is profound..

Thank you Fay for this tribute to them..

This is a wonderfully written poem. I especially love the last stanza. Exquisite.

You so poetically describe the true victims of war Fay. War leaves
emptiness, bitterness and anger. It is truly ironic that most wars
are fought in the name of religeon. Queen and country often have
a lot to answer for.

An astounding write on behalf of war widows and the picture adds yet more pathos to the horror of war. "Death laughing at our shivers" is such a strong image it brought tears to my eyes Fay.
