If Only In My Heart

Postby Cindy » Sun Apr 19, 2015 2:57 am

If only in my heart
I lived among the trees
Like the creatures of the forest
Or the birds among the leaves

I sunk into the grasses
I breathed the fragrant loam
And like the furry rodents
In my heart...I called it home

In my heart the furred and feathered
Became my kith and kin
We walked the paths together
The way it should have been

I romped among the flora
I drank of dappled light
And in my heart, I never left
I've always spent the night

Even now, I know I linger
As I walk the city street
Where my roots have tangled deeper
With the tree roots 'neath the peat

If only in my heart
I still live among the trees
With the creatures of the forest
With the birds among the leaves

I know I never will depart
That secret home within my heart.

A ballade I wrote for a group I belong to on all poetry. Not too crazy about the last two lines, but it's a ballade. I guess.

It's great Cindy, don't doubt yourself and most poets edit their work several times, i know i do.

It is wonderful to have a secret place in your heart where you can retreat to, yours is just heavenly and i think i might see you there sometime... :D

Thank you Stella for your suggestion concerning the last two lines. It helped a lot. I like it much better now. :-)

A wonderful aim is to live more with nature Cindy and your words bring the place to which hearts often hope to find nature's secrets. A peaceful feel to this charming read.

A lyrical and delightful ballad on nature, and the last two lines round off the poem beautifully Cindy.

The desire to be away from the concrete jungle we inhabit, and to feel the breeze flitting through our hair and the freedom of the open air, Cindy. I think this is a fantastic write, Ma'am, and the last two lines beautifully sum it up.
