The most scruffy little robin
who usually hides from me
is friendly now that April's here
and i delightfully see
him waiting on the garden fence
for a feast he knows is free.

Fat mealworms placed in boxes
on windows and a nearby tree,
when he thinks i am not looking
he flies down cheekily,
but if the blue tits gets there first
he hovers like a bee.

When they’ve gone he oft looks sad,
“I hope they left some for me”
and if the feeders are empty
he waits so very patiently
for me to come outside once more
and hear his hungry plea.

Again he keeps his distance
his chirrups are sweet as can be,
fluttering his scruffy feathers
he preens them flirtatiously.
Such an enchantment in April
the little robin who hides from me.

What a beautiful poem. I love birds. I used to feed them, but since we've moved, I haven't. We used to feed the hummingbirds too. We had one that would come up to our window and hover there looking in. Each bird has their own personality and they are fun to watch. I guess some birds think the same of us humans. :-)

A delightful peep into your current "bird-entertainment" dear Stella - - robins are friendly and this verse abounds with their charm.

I too love birds and this scruffy little robin is no exception. What a whopping mealworm he has in his beak and the worm matches his waistcoat. This is such a pleasure to read, and I am enchanted by your wonderful presentation of picture and poem to show off your gorgeous robin thank you Stella.
