On Being Told

When that incoming tide
of emotion
stops you dead in the tracks
that you start,
hair tingling shivers
and eye clouding tears
are just signs
that you´re falling apart.
That sledgehammer pounding
hard in your heart,
the thumping that sounds
in your mind,
shows that the floods
are waiting to start
with the ice cold sweats
that travel your spine.
When that incoming tide
of emotion
shatters the calmness that you
hold so dear,
you´re left in the wilderness
pleading for more
in a world now so strange
and so filled with fear.
Wishing to be told
that it just isn't true
and not hearing the words
they are speaking at you.
