I was warm close and secure in that special place of nurture,my
skin was soft and tender as i caressed my face for comfort.
Safe in the darkness i was content, but one day i could not move.

My world was tightening around me and i was squeezed
against my will, being propelled head first was very frightening.

Soon bright lights hurt me as i fell into waiting hands.
Holding me upside down the hands smacked my tiny frame
and i cried out in fear.

My cry brought the first breath into my body and i could
hear and sense my mother,It was she who now caressed
my face soothing away my fears and weeping tears of joy

Dawn breaks
beyond the water
eyes blink
with first breath
a cry

Such a stunning Tanka prose poem and the picture complements it beautifully. It is a pleasure to read about your birth and the title 'Arriving' is perfect. Your heartfelt words brought tears to my eyes in the last stanza. I do hope other poets try this form too Stella...

Literal and metaphorical truths revealed, and in such beautiful fashion, Stella. Coming into our own, becoming, and making an entrance is displayed with much skill in this innovative and compelling write, Ma'am.
