The Ribbon
They stood on a knoll in the windy meadow
high above the village that lay down below
watching the waves gently kiss the shores
a gentleness that only they alone could know.
Just watching them together you'd surely see
those warm tender feelings living deep inside
his love had abducted her heart for a ransom
one to remain unpaid no matter what was tried.
His fingertips gently caress the nape of her neck
he removes the ribbon from her silky scented hair
free blonde strands childishly play round her face
they twist, they twirl on they dance without a care.
A breeze from the harbor tugged at her dress
soft whispers of the evening air glide over dell
silent winds whip and toss her hair to and fro
her heart like the lapping waves began to swell.
Sun hangs like a giant ornate in the blue sky
makes the meadow the world's largest ballroom
colorful wild flowers twirling like ladies' gowns
as the warm winds bellows her skirt to full bloom.
He let fly the ribbon that once embraced her hair
they watch as it lazily plays tag with the wind
continuously flirting with the nudge of its kiss
then set sail high over the meadow once again.
Determined to make its destination in flight
at last it waves from the bottom of the moon
tenderly he looks into her mesmerized eyes
whispers I give you my world with this balloon.
