I Heard The Toad

I heard the toad with raspy voice
Sing to the damsel of his choice.
In the shadows, there he crooned
Beneath the stars and rising moon.
Throughout the night, he sung the same.
He croaked his love. He called her name.
Alone, alone
No answer came.

Each raspy note fell like a gem.
Beneath the fronds, he scattered them.
A treasure for his maiden, fair...
And in the ether, gathered there
A silence also, very loud.
It hung about him like a cloud.
Alone, alone
His love he vowed.

His ardour never failed or waned
Although it seemed he crooned in vain.
By default, or playful whim
She never chose to answer him.
And I, a witness to his plight
I heard him singing through the night.
Alone, alone
Till morning light.

Oh Cindy this is delightfully written - - what a well-crafted flow of sadness for that amourous toad.

The rhythm and rhyme of this is absolutely perfect, and I found myself hoping that she would come around and fall in love with him. Alas, that she did not fall under the sway of his song, Cindy, but such happens in life, I reckon. A grand gem of a write this is, indeed, Ma'am.
