What It Was All About

Postby Tom Balch » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:53 am

In my Morris Minor
back in those early days
when the sun it shone forever
and we was free about our ways,
I´d drive it down to Cornwall
and I´d drive it to the coast
I´d drive it up to Scotland
but the drive I liked the most
was driving round the corner
to the cafe for tea and toast;
I used to clean the spark plugs
and then reset the gap
with my trusty feeler gauges
in me boiler suit and cap,
I´d change the points and bleed the clutch
I´d bleed the brakes an all
I´d change the filters drain the sump
and change the dirty oil,
then every Sunday morning
I´d clean it inside out
then take it for a nice long drive
Cos that is what... it was all about.

Even i could change the plugs and reset the gap on my old min-clubman, what wonderful cars they were Tom even if they were high maintenance..lol

I could even remove tyres to waxoil under the arches haha

I always wanted a black morris minor with a split windscreen, they were cold and draughty but how lucky you were to have such a wonderful car..

this is a tribute indeed to younger days and a most wonderful car in the days when we actually did love our cars and polished and waxed them with pride.

When I was a kid my Uncle was the proud owner of a Black Morris Minor and he sure looked after it. Every Sunday was spent on car care, so I can relate to your poem! Great write Tom..

Reminiscing on those days when a car and the road was what it was all about, indeed, Tom. Sounds like a great car, and good times, sir!

I had never heard of the Morris Minor either. You make the routine of maintaining it sound like just as much fun as the driving it. :-)
