The highway stretches across the land
It passes through places thick with people
And flickers in and out of great forests
Winding its way among mountains and wetlands
Parting prairie grasses
Passing between ripening fields
Intersecting and branching out
Like a great tree, bringing life
Everyday it is the same
Rain or shine, snow or hail
It's long journey unnoticed and unsung
After all...it's just a road
Perhaps that's why it sighs in the distance
Like the tall pines I once knew.
